Locking the long-term energy storage gold track, Huasu Group's vanadium redox flow battery industry blueprint is accelerating its implementation.

      As the shovels scrape the Gobi Desert in Xinjiang, China, Hualu Group's ambition in the field of new energy storage no longer just a blueprint. With the wind turbines and solar panels springing up in the vast land of western China, a thorny issue also arises: how to store unstable green electricity? Under the grand narrative of the country's energy transition, vanadium redox flow batteries, as a storage technology capable of providing stable power for over 4 or even longer, are embracing a historic opportunity.

      As of 2024, the penetration rate of all-vanadium flow batteries in the new energy mandatory storage scenario has reached 25%. market predicts that by 2025, the new scale of vanadium batteries in China will reach 2.3GW.

Times of change, why is it all vanadium flow battery?

      In the journey of building a new power system with new energy as the main body, energy storage is the key link to determine the success or failure. The of intermittent power sources such as wind and solar power has exceeded 45.7%, making the demand for long-term, large-capacity, and high-security energy more urgent than ever.

      Among the numerous energy storage technology routes, the all-vanadium redox flow battery, with its unique advantages, is transitioning from "alternative" "forefront." Its ultra-long lifespan and inherent safety constitute the core competitive barriers.

The cycle life of this battery is generally more than 15,000 times, and the service life can exceed 20 years, far exceeding mainstream energy storage products on the market. More importantly, its electrolyte is a water-based solution, which fundamentally eliminates the risk of thermal runaway and combustion explosion that lithium may have.

Industrial layout, Hualu Group's strategic move

      As the industry begins to take shape, Hualu Group has completed a systematic layout from technology research and development to capacity building. The company is positioning itself in this promising gold rush with a clear strategy and swift action.

      Technology research and development is the starting point of Huasu's layout. The company has 22 professional technology research and development personnel and 7 national invention patents, and has established a research and development experimental center of up to 2000 square meters. In April 2025, Huasu and the full vanadium flow battery research team of Sichuan University of Light Industry held a research and development cooperation exchange meeting, aiming to accelerate the process of technology commercialization through "ustry-university-research" synergy.

      The fruits of R&D are rapidly being translated into tangible production capacity. Huasu Group currently has at least two large-scale industrialization projects that entered the stage of substantive progress, demonstrating its determination and execution to transform technological advantages into market advantages.

      Hualu Group is advancing the industrialization of vanadium redox flow batteries with a clear regional strategy, aiming to serve core markets and form sygies. In Qitai County, Xinjiang, the Group has started the construction of a storage system manufacturing project with an annual production capacity of 0.5GW/GWh. This layout aims to directly serve the vast new energy base in Xinjiang and address the localized large-scale energy storage needs of wind and solar power generation. Inongchuan District, Chongqing, the Group is actively promoting cooperation in the vanadium redox flow battery industry chain, planning to build production lines and advance technology transfer deepen its industrial layout in the Sichuan-Chongqing region.

      Through the above layout, Huasu Group is building local capacity from core materials to system integration, accelerating the large-scale application of vanadium redox flow technology.

Application blueprint, infinite scenarios beyond the power grid

      The application of vanadium redox flow battery is far more than the supporting energy storage of large-scale wind and solar power bases. With the decline of cost the improvement of awareness, its application scenarios are penetrating into a broader user side and special demand fields. 

       On the user side, a collaborative planning scheme of "all vanadium flow battery on the user side of the city   power grid" proposed by the academ team shows that this model can reduce the cost of expanding transmission lines and reduce the waste cost of renewable energy. This provides a theoretical basis for the construction of large "power warehouses in cities.  

      Data centers are considered to be the "top scenario" on the user side. Its extreme requirements for security and the stability requirements of continuous power supply match perfectly the characteristics of all-vanadium flow batteries. In addition, places with high security level and uninterrupted power supply requirements such as 5G base stations, hospitals, and also constitute a huge potential market. 

      In the industrial field, all-vanadium flow batteries can be an important means for enterprises such as steel and chemical industry to stabilize the grid voltage and achievevalley power peak use" to save costs. It can also be used as a backup power source for island microgrids and important machine rooms, providing a highly reliable energy guarantee.

The battle of the future, resources, standards and differentiated competition

      Despite the promising outlook, the vanadium redox flow battery industry still needs to overcome several hurdles to truly achieve a breakout scale. The primary challenge stems upstream resources. By 2030, the proportion of vanadium demand from the storage sector is expected to gradually increase. 

      This means a lot of new vanadium pentoxide capacity is needed. Ensuring a stable supply of vanadium resources requires “developing more sources and what we have”. It is necessary to step up the development of vanadium mines and steel slag, and to vigorously develop the recycling technology of electrolyte.

      Secondly, the industry standard system urgently needs to be improved. At present, products from different enterprises are not fully unified in terms of system efficiency, parameters, etc., which affects the interoperability and cost control of large-scale deployment. Speeding up the formulation of industry standards has become an urgent task for the healthy of the industry.

      The all-vanadium redox flow battery needs to adhere to a differentiated competitive strategy. Its main battlefield should be clearly focused on long-term energy, scenarios with extremely high safety requirements (such as densely populated areas, data centers), etc., which are relatively weak areas for other technology routes. Continuously improving energy and low-temperature adaptability will be the key to consolidating its competitive advantage.
